SR-2 Normandy

One of the first major differences you will notice between Mass Effect 1, and Mass Effect 2 is the Normandy.  In the opening of Mass Effect 2 the Normandy is destroyed by an unidentified vessel, that is later revealed to be a massive Collector ship.

It looks like Commander Shepard wasn’t the only one Project Lazarus reselected.

The new Normandy is twice the size of the original, with many enhancements.  Some of the enhancements are pure aesthetics, civilian comforts, but many are efficient and help to make the Normandy a superior ship to the original.  The ever important stealth features of the Normandy have remained.

Due to the increase in size and mass, the SR-2 is incapable of landing on every planet, so the Mako has been replaced by a shuttle.  No more pointless driving around from notable location to notable location.  Now the shuttle simply drops you off exactly where the point of interest is.

The SR-2 is also equipped with an AI.  The Enhanced Defense Intelligence, or EDI, is the ships electronic warfare defense.  She has behavioral blocks, and cannot interfere with any of the ships systems.  Joker and Commander Shepard are surely comforted by this fact, as rogue AI’s tend to be a problem in the Mass Effect universe.
